"When it all comes down,
I hope it doesn't land on you."

- Hoyt Axton

Rev. Hults' Editorial: Now & Then
WELL, here we are, the last days of the years that have a 19 in front of them. (I refuse to get into the arguement about when the century begins or ends. Sorry, it's the zeroes that do it.) Last month, I vowed to go to Seattle where the WTO will be meeting and, oh my, it did start some stuff. I got a call on the answering machine from someone called Wendy, who explained that, in case I didn't know, the WTO is part of the Masonic Vatican Hapsberg Rockefeller Rothschild Swiss Band Twelve Cardinals Trilateral Commission Federal Reserve Band Secret Deal Guys Club. Wendy even gave me the phone numbers of some of these guys. Wendy didn't leave her own number. Hey, Wendy, I gave you my number -- it's on the paper -- why didn't you give me yours?

Is it that you want to talk but not listen? Since you obviously read the last issue, I would suggest you read our little motto on our website: www.upperleftedge.com. It says this paper is dedicated to the arts, the environment, and the encouragement of rational dialogue. Not monologue. Especially not irrational monologue.

Have you read any history? Just because your name was invented as a character's name in a children's book (Peter Pan) doesn't mean you can't grow up.

Just because the Hapsbergs, Rockefellers, Vatican, Masons, et al., are rich and powerful and, yes, do get together on a regular basis and shuck and jive each other, it does not follow that they have it all figured out and we are but pawns in a centuries old international conspiracy. That is what is called 'slave thinking' or 'victim mode'. It serves the same purpose as the 'commies' did for so long and so well. It gets folks all riled up about something other than what is really happening. Having grown up learning 'duck and cover', I don't enjoy the feeling of being vulnerable to the forces of darkness or the 'evil empire', as it was so eloquently (if not diplomatically) stated by RR. Nor do I enjoy being treated like a fool. Hey, I watched Watergate come down, I've read the damned transcripts. It was a third rate burglary by fourth rate guys hired by the most powerful and wicked man in the world at the time, and they blew it; the country learned a very important lesson.

The government isn't very good at a lot of things. That holds true for corporations. They are not involved in a great master plan for a new world order, is spite of what their own PR would have you think. Have no doubt about it, in this country, and around the world, it is the people who are, for good or ill, whether they know it or not, the sovereign. We are reminded of Wayne Morse's reply to a reporter who was asking about his efforts to stop the Vietnam War. The reporter asked, "But, isn't it the President's right to make foreign policy?" "No!" said Morse. "That is the right of the American people!" And more and more the people are beginning to realize that.

In the last few decades the people of the planet have become much more aware of each other. Through radio, movies, television, and now the world wide web, we have more information about ourselves and our planet than ever before. And when you look at the information available with an open mind, noting population pressures, extreme disparity in economic resources, and the ongoing destruction of natural resources, it becomes obvious that something must be done, or the consequences will be predictable and ugly. Them is a global gold rush on for the remaining natural resources of the planet that will determine our future. Those resources belong to the people of this planet and it is time the people explain that to our corporations and our governments. The only way that can in done successfully is within the framework of the democratic process, with freedom of speech and information, the ballot, and if necessary non-violent civil disobedience. Revolution in a free country comes through the law, not the gun.

Don't stop now! There's Mo' Stuff in page 2 of this month's Now & Then.
