Classes will be held at three locations: Tolovana Community Hall (3781 S. Hemlock), Cannon Beach Historical Society (Spruce & Sunset), Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce (2nd & Spruce) and Cannon Beach RV Resort (340 Elk Creek Rd) and are open to adults and students of high school level without regard to race, creed, or sexual orientation. All classrooms are handicap accessible.

Hatha Yoga
Classes are offered in ongoing, 4-week sessions beginning:
2 January / 31 January / 28 January / 25 February / 28 March.
Tolovana Hall - Class packages for each session: 4 for $35, 8 for $65, 12 for $85; drop-ins welcome, $10/class.

Vinyasa is a vigorous, dynamic style that links breath and movement through a heat building sequence of postures. This class is designed to build strength, stamina and flexibility while maintaining precise alignment and technique. Recommended for students with yoga experience.

Chair Yoga
Wednesdays 9:30-10:30am
Fridays 8-9am
Saturdays 8-9am

This gentle yoga class is practiced while seated or supported by a chair. The adapted Hatha Yoga postures are designed to build strength and flexibility and improve circulation through movement that is linked with the breath. Recommended for beginners, those new to yoga or those nursing an injury or illness.

Zen Lifestyles
Mondays 6-8pm: Tolovana Hall

An interactive, group process experience that involves learning and practicing the basic principles of relaxed thinking, mindful attention, emotional vibrancy, behavioral flexibility, soulful creativity and spiritual harmony and peace. The class includes meditation, spontaneous movement and dance, free-form art and writing, open-ended conversation and narration, and lots of laughter, fun and joyous relationship building. Although the theory evolved from early Japanese Buddhism, Chinese Taoism and Christian Mysticism, the class is non-religious in nature and focuses on the fundamental dynamics of compassion, freedom, creativity, happiness, community building and love.

Journal Writing

Journal writing is a tool you can use to review your life and discover how your past has made you the unique person you are. As your insight unfolds, you will develop a clearer understanding of what you want from the future and, in turn, how you define your passion and purpose. Experience freedom of expressive thought and creativity without criticism and censorship. Sharing what you’ve written is strictly voluntary; having fun, being supported and supporting others isn’t.

Drawing & Painting

Mat Pilates

Mat Pilates is a safe, challenging and systematic mind/body workout with an emphasis on movement quality, posture and breathing. Regardless of age, gender or condition, you can experience a balanced and aligned body that looks fit, feels revitalized and moves with ease. With a focus on core stability, this workout is a great way to restore the natural curves of the spine, relieve tension and enhance self-confidence. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat.

Improve strength, posture, agility and flexibility through this class designed specifically for an older population. Modifications will be provided to allow full participation by all levels. Through practice of pilates, daily activities and sports become easier and your body will become more fit and toned. Flexband required.

Anusara Yoga

Anusara ("in the flow of grace") yoga is a heart-centered approach that also stresses alignment. Level l and 2 will focus on sun salutations, standing poses and beginning inversions. Some yoga experience recommended, call for information.

So You Want to be a Writer
Thursdays 6-8pm: CB History Center
Begins 21 January: 8 weeks $70, drop-in $10/session

Develop the skills and habits necessary to good writing. Weekly exercises focus on aspects of story, character and voice. Everyone writes, everyone reads, everyone discusses, the instructor edits your work ruthlessly. Supportive atmosphere, constructive feedback and a weekly deadline Whatever sort of writing you do, you’ll be doing it better by the end of the term. Come prepared to think and laugh.

Spanish/English Language Exchange
Fridays 4-5pm: Tolovana Hall
Begins 22 January: 8 weeks $25, drop-in $3

The class is facilitated rather than taught, is designed to encourage individual conversation and interaction between Spanish and English speakers, and is tailored to individual needs.

Peaceful Lifestyles and Community
Saturdays 11am-1pm: Tolovana Hall
Begins 23 January: 10 weeks $100, drop-in $10.

The class explores all of the fundamental causes of conflict and alienation of self and community which contribute to all levels of verbal, physical and institutional violence. Sponsored by: Oregon Institute for Peace, Spiritual Development and Community Transformation.
