The Edge

December 23, 2021 by Greg Herren 2 Comments

The edge feels closer than ever,
from the first of the day stepping out of bed
to the moment I lay down my head on my pillow.

It’s the moments in between that matter.

A smile, laughter, a hug. Simple right?
Every day is a chance to make a difference
in someone’s moment, day or life.

It’s hard when you know you are so close
to the edge and want to cram and share
your life’s knowledge and experience
with everyone you love, even strangers.
So hard for some to open up to people,
even friends and family.

It’s rewarding to share hope and struggles,
to face fears, to stand on the edge and
take that chance of rejection or ridicule.
To make people understand that life
is not fair, and to try and try to rise
above it and FIGHT!!

Sometimes crying and being scared are okay;
this releases the negative energy to keep
you refocusing on getting back to the edge,
shaking your fist, saying I will not give in
to the pain and fear.

On the darkest days I still have faith and keep
fighting, sharing my story of struggles and
triumphs with as many people as I can.

When it’s my turn to finally take that step
off the edge do not feel bad for me,
because I fought to the edge and I’ll keep
fighting beyond that.

Be good to everyone  because you don’t know
how close they are to the edge.

Amen Greg! Every day is blessed when we activate the spirit of this poem. You’re one of my favorite people on God’s earth. Thank you for this call to arms for love!
